Healing well is part of getting a great tattoo. Follow your artist’s instructions first, and use the guidelines below as a clear baseline for the first two weeks.
First 48 hours
- Wash hands before touching your tattoo.
- Gently wash with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel—don’t rub.
- Apply a very thin layer of aftercare (less is more).
- Keep it clean, dry, and protected from friction.
Avoid soaking: no hot tubs, pools, baths, or ocean until fully healed.
Days 3–14
- Wash 1–2 times daily, keep it clean.
- Moisturize lightly as needed—do not smother it.
- Expect peeling/flaking. Do not pick or scratch.
- Avoid tight clothing rubbing the tattoo.
- Keep out of direct sun; no sunscreen until healed.
Once healed, protect the tattoo with sunscreen for best long-term results.
